Books on history and lineage of Buddhist branches?
Hello –
I am looking for a book or two that goes over the history and lineages of Buddhism. I am most familiar with the Theravadin teachers surrounding Burma/Myanmar – Jack Kornfield, Salzberg, Goldstein…leading back to Goenka and Mahasi/Ledi Sadayaw.
Just curious about other Theravadin schools and how they might differ from the Mahasi/Goenka lineage, specifically regarding their Vipassana/meditation teachings. If it’s not too tall of an order, I’m also curious about Mahayana & Tibetian lineages, their history, and where their meditation teachings arise from.
Thank you.
